The Boathouse - seaside suite
WHERE THE WAVES GENTLY LAP OUTSIDE THE WINDOW
On the outermost edge of the Bohuslän archipelago, where the cliffs meet the sea and the elements, lies Lotshotellet on Käringön. We have created this place with a simple and clear vision: to provide a setting for the moments that mark life’s milestones – a wedding, a golden anniversary, a landmark birthday, or simply the celebration of many years together.
We have built a bespoke boathouse right at the water's edge, where architecture, materials, and light have guided every detail.
A Sequence of Experiences
The suite’s upper floor is designed as a sequence of different moods and functions. The bed serves as the room’s peaceful center, facing a custom-built wardrobe with an integrated and beautifully lit oak niche. During a wedding, this niche becomes the natural place for the bridal gown – like a piece of art in the room. On other occasions, our signature bathrobes await you here.
To the south lies the preparation area – the dressing table – bathed in magnificent daylight from the sea. At the eastern gable, there is an inviting reading nook with a balcony offering an unobstructed view of the ocean – perfect for your morning coffee.
To the west is the lounge area with a sofa and chaise longue. Here, you will also find a viewing table with brass binoculars to follow life on the fjord. From the western balcony, you can catch the day's last rays before the sun sets into the sea. Great care has been taken in the selection of materials and furnishings.
Community and Privacy
While the upper floor is a private sanctuary, the ground floor is designed for togetherness. It features a brush-painted kitchen in traditional archipelago style and a dining room with a square table in oiled oak – a space that works just as well for a celebratory dinner as for a small board meeting.
The living room is sunken to create a sense of space, offering panoramic views of the water and a ceiling height of over four meters. For guests wishing to share the experience with close friends or family, discreetly integrated sleeping solutions allow the house to flexibly accommodate up to six people.
Where Sky Meets Sea
Outside, the experience continues on terraces that follow the sun’s path and the direction of the wind. Here, you can sink into a heated stainless steel saltwater tub or take the stairs directly down to the private swimming and kayak dock.
When evening falls, the choice is yours: enjoy a private seafood dinner in the Boathouse or visit one of the island’s acclaimed restaurants – Petersons Krog, Simsons Prästgård, or Lotshotellet’s own Crêperie.
Your Journey Begins at the Quay
To make your stay as carefree as possible, transport to and from Käringön is always included with our boat, Granit, which takes you all the way from the mainland to the dock right outside the house.
